We are the Butterfly and Ladybird classes.
Our Class Teacher is Mrs Hesselworth.
Our Senior Teaching Assistant is Mrs Vaughan.
Our Teaching Assistants are Miss Cope and Mrs Willson.
Our Administration Assistant in the office is Mrs Walter.
The nursery offers 15 hours per week during term times. These are provided in either a morning or an afternoon session. You will be offered 3 hours per day, 5 days per week totalling 15 hours.

This week we have been reading Dinosaur Roar. We have drawn our own dinosaurs and done threading around pictures of dinosaurs. We also played Dinosaur dominos. After we read Terrible Dinosaurs, we counted and ordered dinosaurs to 10.
This week we have read Dear Zoo, Walking through the Jungle and The Tiger who came to Tea. We have made playdough tigers and sorted animals into stripes and spots. We have counted animals into different sized boxes and made snake patterns.
I love Animals
This week we have been reading I love Animals. We have made horses and pigs out of coloured paper and wool, painted a picture of a tractor and hand-printed a picture of a cow. We have also practiced our handwriting.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This week we have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have printed fruit and butterflies and made number caterpillars from numbers 1-5. We have also been on a minibeast hunt, counted fruit and talked about the days of the week.
During UK week we have been learning all about where we live in Dover and about the capital city, London. We collaged Big Ben and made London Bridge out of different coloured paper. We made the London eye out of painted cardboard and made split pin soldiers. We also made houses out of junk modelling.
We're going on a Bear Hunt
This week we have been reading We’re going on a Bear Hunt and We’re going on a Egg Hunt. We have used different materials to collage a picture of the bear hunt and used our hands to touch different materials in the garden. We also made a cave with building blocks. And of course……...we went on a bear hunt!
This week we read Postman Bear. We matched numbered envelopes and houses and sorted different bears into different colours. We caught numbered ducks in the water and played all sorts of number puzzles.
Where's my Teddy?
This week we read Where’s my Teddy? We used pictures to sequence the story and drew our own teddies. We also looked at other stories in our book area. We made teddy bear headbands and practised recognising numbers.
This is the Bear
This week we read This is the Bear, This is the Bear and the Picnic Lunch and This is the Bear and the Scary Night.
We made bear sandwiches—did you enjoy yours? We also made pictures of bears using a fork, counted bears and went on a hunt to find the numbered bears.
Peace at Last
This week we have read Peace at Last. We have talked about the different things we do during the day and at night, and we have played Bingo using the different sounds from the story. We have also used sand to do mark making and been on a sound walk.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
This week we have been learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have made porridge and measured bears with cubes. We have learnt about size by measuring Mummy Bear, Daddy Bear and Baby Bear. We have made bears out of shapes and Goldilocks out of paper plates and collage materials. We have also played in the role play area and talked about how we would feel if someone broke our chair and ate our porridge!
Jack and Jill
This week’s nursery rhyme has been Jack and Jill. The children have been using threading techniques to go up the hill and down the hill and we have been mark making outside with water and paint brushes.
As we have learnt about 6 different nursery rhymes this term, the children have been writing about their favourite nursery rhyme and have also made playdough figures of their favourite nursery rhyme character.
This week our nursery rhyme has been Humpty Dumpty. We have used different shapes to make our own Humpty Dumptys and made printed pictures using bricks and paint. We have built walls and counted the bricks and sung the Humpty Dumpty rhyme. We have also talked about our feelings when things happen to us (just like Humpty Dumpty!).
Multi-cultural Arts Week
Our chosen country for Multi-cultural Arts Week was Hawaii. We have learnt many facts about Hawaii, and have painted the Hawaiian flag and made tropical pizzas. We also ‘exploded’ our own volcano, which was very exciting! We have watched a video all about Hawaiian dance and tried on traditional Hawaiian clothing.
Hickory Dickory Dock
This week we have been learning the Hickory Dickory Dock nursery rhyme. We have made paper plate mice and practiced our cutting skills. We have also made dough mice, played Mouse Lotto and raced Bee Bots up and down the Hickory Dickory Dock clock!
Incy Wincy Spider
This week’s Nursery Rhyme has been Incy Wincy Spider. We have made paper plate spiders and spider webs and used our maths skills to count spider legs and to count the numbers on Incy Wincy’s drain pipe! We have also practiced positional language using spiders in a drain pipe in water.
This term we will be learning about nursery rhymes.
This week we have been learning Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-Cake. We have made cakes to take home and painted and collaged pictures of cakes.
We have also been using circles and lines to practice our handwriting.
Welcome to the New Year!
This week we practiced our cutting skills by making snowflakes. We also made patterns on candy canes using our fingerprints and made shape snowmen and penguins.
Thank you for coming to see your children perform their Christmas songs. The children were wonderful and we hope you enjoyed the performances as much as we did!
Christmas Fun Week!
This week has been Christmas Fun Week and we have been doing all sorts of Christmas activities! We read the book Dear Santa and wrote a letter to Santa. We made Christmas trees, icicles and Christmas stockings. We also visited Santa and spoke to Santa on our Santa Hotline! We have a Santacam in the Nursery, just so that Santa can watch us and see if we are doing the right thing!
Children in Need
It was lovely to see so many parents come into Nursery and enjoy making things with their children. Thank you for your donations to the Children in Need Appeal. You raised £31.55! We will hopefully do something similar leading up to Christmas so you can enjoy some fun Christmas activities with your children. This week we read different Elmer books. We made our own patterns using two colours and we have been counting lots of elephants.
What makes a good friend?
This week we have been reading The Rainbow Fish. We also watched the story on our big board. We talked about what makes a good friend and made beautiful clay rainbow fish. We also decorated fish templates by weaving coloured strips of paper through them.
We also had a great day on Friday, when we held our Pudsey Fun Day! Mums and Dads came along too and everyone enjoyed decorating cakes, making Pudsey ears, playing Hook the Duck, decorating Pudsey's headscarf and making split pin Pudseys!
This week we have been making firework pictures, which you can see in the entrance. We have also painted poppies to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I. You can see these in the kitchen window. We have been colour sorting and counting this week as well!
Brown Bear, Brown Bear
This week we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear. We learnt about different colours and did threading around pictures of the characters from the book. We also played a matching game with the characters and mixed powder paint with our hands—what colours could we make?
In handwriting, we practised circles and dots.
Using the camera!
This week we used the camera to take pictures of our favourite things. We also wrote about our favourite T.V. characters and did printing with our favourite fruits.
We read Just like Jasper and sequenced the main events in the story. We also read the Oxford Reading Tree book The Toys’ Party. We followed the story to make a cake. Ask your children about what we put inside!
We also had great fun during Eco Week, when we planted bulbs with our Mums and Dads in the Nursery garden.
Numbers and Nursery
This week we had fun with numbers. We played number lotto, found numbers in the sand and water trays and counted groups. We also painted number shapes using printing methods.
We read Lou-Lou loves Nursery and Goat goes to Playgroup.
We had a visit from Lee-Anne, our Early Help Support Worker, which was great fun!
This week we talked about our friends, learning each other’s names and looking through our I can See book that has all our photos in. We made friendship bracelets and face biscuits. We also painted a picture of our friends.
We went outside and did mark making with water, concentrating on circles and lines.
Look at our houses!
This week we read Where’s Spot? We looked at houses and what shapes they are made of. We also used shapes to make our own houses and used Playdough to discover what shapes look like. We played Shape Lotto and built houses with the big blocks.
Where we live
This week we read Owl Babies and made our own owl babies out of paper plates. We also talked about who lives in our houses and did large mark making outside in chalk. We learnt some new games in our P.E. lessons, including placing and collecting bean bags in hoops. It was great fun!
Getting to know you!
We had a very busy week this week! We made a collage on cut outs of our bodies and decorated paper plates for our faces. We worked out how tall we are using the big bricks and went on a number hunt in the garden. We also talked about birthdays!

We hope you had a super summer break and we are delighted to welcome you all back for the start of the new school year. We have lots of exciting things planned for the year ahead!

Welcome to the new school year!
This week we read Harry and the Bucket of Dinosaurs. We also went on a dinosaur hunt! We pressed dinosaurs into Playdough to make fossils and played with the dinosaur small world.
This week we had some fun activities to do! We made our own ice lollies, painted and played circle games outside. The weather was beautiful!
Thomas the Tank Engine
What a hectic week we had! We learnt about Thomas the Tank Engine and Lee-Anne, our Early Help Support Worker, also came to visit us. The Garden Party was on the Wednesday (lots of lovely party food!) and our Summer Fayre was on Friday afternoon (great stalls and fun things to do!).
This week it was Postman Pat! We read A Letter from Postman Pat and talked together about Postmen and the job they do. We used writing paths to practice our pencil control and played in the role play Post Office.
Bob the Builder
This week we read and learnt about Bob the Builder! We read Bob and Scoop and Digger Pop-Ups and labelled Bob the Builder characters. We built a Duplo/Mega Blok house and used Play Dough to make bricks to build a house.
Doc McStuffins, Pet Vet
This week we read Doc McStuffins, Pet Vet. We learnt how to care for pets and used our writing skills to label pictures of animals. We sorted and sized dog bowls and bones and drew the correct number of spots on the dog.
This week we read the Fireman Sam story. We also used our maths skills to count firemen into their fire engine. We learnt about people who help us and painted a picture of Fireman Sam.
It was also our Sports Day on Thursday!
Growing - Keeping healthy
This week we learnt all about being healthy. We read Two Hungry Bears and used our writing skills to explain how to clean our teeth. We also made a fruit salad and sorted fruit and vegetables using our maths skills.
As it was soon going to be Sports Day, we practiced our skills in PE.
Growing - humans
This week we learnt about how humans grow. We read Titch and Tidy Titch and practiced our writing skills with ‘When I grow up, I want to be…..’. We drew our own faces and measured the tallest to the shortest using our maths skills.
Growing - animals
This week we continued with our topic of growing. We learnt about baby animals and how they change into adult animals. We read Mummy’s Little Bear and Owl Babies and painted and collaged a horse/foal and a cat/kitten.
Growing - frogs and butterflies
This week we learnt about growing. We talked about the life cycle of butterflies and tadpoles and read The Very Hungry Caterpillar book. We went on a minibeast hunt (how exciting!) and painted and collaged pictures of frogs, butterflies and tadpoles.
This week was UK week!
We read The Queen’s Knickers and The Story of St George. We painted the England flag, collaged the Scotland flag and block painted the Welsh flag. We used our maths skills to count and sort money and built a London landmark with construction materials.
This week was Eco Week! Our parents brought in bedding plants and planted them with their children.
The Nursery children planted broad beans in clear plastic bags with cotton wool to see what happened. We read Jasper’s Beanstalk, discussing the story together and putting the pictures in order. We also used play dough to make short and tall beanstalks.
This week we had some Easter fun! We made an Easter card and decorated a picture of an Easter egg using paint and cotton wool buds. We also rolled plastic eggs to see how far they rolled down the slope.
We took part in the Easter egg hunt and Easter bonnet parade!
The Monster Pet
This week we read The Monster Pet by Jan Pienkowski. We designed and wrote about our own monster pet. We then decided on the food our monster pet might eat. We also made monsters using 2D shapes.
Fantastic Stories - 'How Billy Duck learned to Swim' and 'Duck in the Truck'
This week we read ‘How Billy Duck learned to swim’ and ‘Duck in the Truck’. We made a collage of Billy Duck and used a salad spinner to make a spin art painting. We learnt about the life cycle of a duck and practiced our maths by singing ‘Five little ducks’.
Our wonderful ducklings continued to grow and enjoyed swimming lessons! They left us on Friday and went to their new homes!
Fantastic Stories - 'To Town', 'Mud Walk' and 'What Next?'
This week we read ‘To Town’, ‘Mud Walk’ and ‘What Next?’ by Joy Cowley. We practiced our handwriting and used playdough to develop our mathematical language of measurement. We also played with the sloppy corn flour to practice our gross motor skills.
We also had a delivery of six duck eggs, which we watched hatch and begin to grow into fluffy ducklings!
Fantastic Stories - Mrs Wishy-Washy and Splishy-Splashy
This week we read ‘Mrs Wishy-Washy’ and ‘Splishy-Splashy’. We made stick puppets, a collage of a duck and block painted a bath tub. Using our maths, we also counted and sorted farm animals.
It also snowed!!
Fantastic Stories - The Meanies and The Meanies' Party!
This term’s topic is Fantastic Stories!This week we read ‘The Meanies’ and ‘The Meanies’ Party’. We painted Meanies, identified feelings and emotions and practiced our handwriting. We also used our maths skills to count Meanies.
Multi Cultural Arts Week!
This week was Multi Cultural Arts Week!
We learnt all about the food and culture of Italy. We did junk modelling of a gondola and painted and collaged the Italian flag. We also did food tasting of pizza and spaghetti and decorated Venetian face masks.
Nursery Rhymes - 'Five Elephants went out to play'
This week we read ‘Five Elephants went out to play’. We drew an elephant, carried out an experiment using Skittles and acted out the nursery rhyme in maths.
Nursery Rhymes - 'Five little men in a flying saucer'
This week we learnt ‘Five little men in a flying saucer’. We made a flying saucer with stickle bricks and used Playdough to make an alien. We also made Q Tip star art.
Nursery Rhymes - 'Five currant buns in a Baker's Shop'
This week our nursery rhyme was ‘Five Currant Buns in a Baker’s Shop’. We said the numbers in order and did lots of counting items. We also cooked currant fairy cakes.
Nursery Rhymes - 'I'm a little Teapot'
This week we continued our topic of Nursery Rhymes. We read ‘I’m a little Teapot’ and matched patterns on teapots. We also made a tipping teapot and painted and collaged a large teapot.
Nursery Rhymes - 'This little piggy went to market'.
This week we began our topic of Nursery Rhymes. We read ‘This little Piggy went to Market’ and did painting, cutting and sticking.
This week was Christmas Party Week! We made party hats and place mats and also learnt some Christmas dances from Leanne, our Early Help Support Worker.
Father Christmas came to visit the children too!
This week we performed our Christmas play. We listened to lots of Christmas stories and sang lots of Christmas songs. We also made Christmas cards.
This week our topic was Christmas! We decorated Christmas baubles and practiced our Christmas play. We read lots of Christmas books and used paint and collage to decorate a large Christmas tree. We also practiced pattern printing on a bowl for a Christmas tree.
We also had our faces painted and visited Father Christmas in his grotto!
This week was Maths Week! We counted and repeated patterns and played lots of maths games. We also learnt about shapes and did space and measuring work.
We also had a lot of fun on the giant bouncy castle!
This week was Book Week! We read ‘Whatever Next!’ and re-enacted the story. We also talked about road safety and read from the Road Safety Big Book. On the Friday we dressed up as our favourite book character!
This week we learnt about different celebrations. To celebrate Bonfire Night, we painted pictures of fireworks and made a sparkly explosion in science. We also made and decorated salt dough Divas for Divali.
This week we talked about birthdays. We read ‘Birthday Surprises’ and made a large birthday card. We also made playdough cakes and counted the candles.
This week we learnt all about animals. We read ’I love Animals’ and ’Dear Zoo’ and used our words to describe the animals in the stories. We painted our favourite animal and baked animal shaped biscuits.
We also had a visit from our Early Help Support Worker, who brought her Persona Dolls with her for the children to play with.
This week we learnt about Autumn. We read ‘Oliver’s Fruit’ and made a fruit cocktail. We went on an Autumn Walk and did printing with bubble wrap. During Maths, we played the strawberry counting game.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear
This week we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear and used stick puppets to re-enact the story. We played Brown Bear, Brown Bear bingo and painted characters from the story. We also practiced our gross motor skills again.
